Now you've got THE TONE of the original VOX amps

Like any of the great and sought-after amps, Mercury's Upgraded AC4tv radiates a timeless and refined tonal range. Our Upgrade gives you all the chime and tonal distinction that made VOX amps unique.

You also get gobs of headroom -- making the Upgraded amp almost ridiculously pedal-friendly. And we substantially lowered noise floor -- enough to make any recording engineer stand up and take notice. In fact, our prototypes (that use exactly the same components that your amp will) are already studio favorites here in Los Angeles.

The VOX AC4tv Mercury Upgrade Kit gives you --

  • Boutique VOXY tone
  • Great recording amp
  • An amp that loves pedals
  • Cutting-edge Mercury Axiom transformer designs
  • Plus, everything you need to Upgrade your amp

And a very cool new trick -- we re-modulated the 12AX7 tube to emulate the EF86!!!

Experience the lush vintage tones that only Mercury transformers can give your amp. Whether you use your new Upgraded VOX AC4tv for practice, gigging or recording you can take it to the pro-level with Mercury.

Why a do-it-yourself amp Upgrade?

The quest for inspirational tone.... That's why so many guitarists are turning to boutique amps or D.I.Y. upgrades. With the way things are you're either going to have to build or upgrade your amp by yourself -- or hire a gun do to it for you.

The Upgrade Kit fun to do, but it's also educational. We make it easy with detailed step-by-step documentation -- virtually holding your hand through the entire process so there's very little room for error or interpretation.

Not up to doing the Upgrade yourself? No problem, we can do the job for you.

"It's clean, it's full, with enough bass -- and sounds like a VOX! A great amp that sounds soooo musical! I think that the way to make someone hear this is to A/B it. I would be surprised if people didn’t buy these things all day long. That thing sounds as good as anything on the planet.

"Amazing! You guys hear that, right? Whoa! Man, I can't stop playin’ it.

“The Mercury Upgrade doesn’t give me option anxiety. This is more than a student amp. I don’t think even a beginning student would get what’s going on here. This is definitely a real amp; a good professional amp; and a recording amp.

[While running Mercury Upgraded AC4tv through a Marshall 4x12” cab.] "Oh my gawd! That's unbelievable!! Listen to the overtones. I love the way it comes on.

"It sounds really VOXY, too. Like an AC30. It's amazing, it thrills me."

(Video demo by Carl of Mercury's AC4tv Upgrade coming soon!)

"Mercury has upgraded this amplifier so that instead of sounding scratchy and somewhat nasty right out of the box, when you turn it up it actually sounds nice. Really mellow and really responsive. And yet when I crank it up I get a little bit of hair on it. I see this being a jazz amp, a practice amp – then turn it up, put a good pedal in front of it and it'd be a good rock 'n roll amp too. It sounds good for the blues -- it's got a vibe! The amp is pretty pedal-friendly. It sounds better and better the more I play it. I've got to own one."

This project and its documentation is the result of technical investigations made by the engineering staff of Mercury Magnetics. The disclosure of the information herein may pertain to proprietary rights, and the furnishing of these documents does not constitute an expressed or implied license to use such materials. Mercury reserves the right to make changes to the VOX AC4tv Upgrade Kit or its components without notice, at any time.

CAUTION! The voltages in your amplifier can be dangerous. Transformers and chokes are not user serviceable parts. Installation of these components should always be performed by an experienced technician. The simple ability to use a soldering iron is not enough to qualify a "do it yourself person." Those who are inexperienced in working with electronic circuits should never attempt to service their amplifier. Household line currents can be deadly!! Transformers, chokes and large filter capacitors can store a dangerous charge for several days or more after the amplifier has been unplugged. Never touch the terminals of such devices without being certain of their charge status. Risk of shock and damage to equipment may result from mishandling and/or improper use of these components. Please use common sense and always think safety first. After all, tone is most enjoyed when you are alive to hear it.
